Comments from the Chair
Another wonderful day at Grimsbury Farm Fun day.
We had a stall there and were busy informing people of what has been happening. There is now approx 1500 opposition letters in with the council against the building on Barry Road. and the head of the council has spoken with us and told us that the council are on our side and that no planning will be given on any greenbelt land while the RSS is not in place.
Our community garden site has been decided. We are going to help do up the old signal box on the cycle path and do the land along the path. We have had a few volunteers who are keen to help us with this project and we are very excited about this task.
20th Sept
Well have we been busy Since hearing of the plan to build on Barry Road Oldland Action Group along with us at Warmley have been informing people of the plans and holding open days in Bitton, North Common and at our Community Centre in Warmley. The response has been overwhelming. The closing date for opposition has been moved to 29th Sept and we hope to have 1000 objections in by then. The press have been very supportive and reports have been in the Evening Post, This Week and the Observer. The HTV news also had us on live .
To add more insult to this already corrupt body that govern us we found out that the RSS used Baker Associates to research the need for houses and come up with a figure and what greenbelt land could be used. This is the same Baker Associates who have now put in planning for Barry Road!!!! Yes it is immoral so please stop them and lets show all exactly what we think of them.
6th Sept.
It is now time for action. Baker Associates have put in plans to build 450 houses, a school, warehouses, etc on the greenbelt in Barry Road Oldland. I urge all of you to send to the council your letters of objection. Again we can stop this if hundreds of you write in. It is crucial that we oppose this it is our first test and we must pass.
Write in and tell them about the pollution that it will create, the community cohesion it will destroy, the wildlife it will kill and the traffic jams it will add to.
20th Aug
A lot has happened since I last wrote. Our fun day was a great success and we enjoyed it very much. It seemed we had the only dry and sunny day for a while and it was good to see people enjoying themselves.
I have been down to Cornwall to meet up with 2 new groups there that are joining the alliance. Both in the St Austell area they are fighting a development that wants to concrete over an area of beauty.
Our Group has sent a letter to the council opposing the building of the new stadium on green belt land and has pledged support.
We attended a afternoon picnic being held in Shirehampton on a green site that locals use for leisure.
It seems lately all is up in arms even the TV programme called Jam and Jerusalem is about a development taking place on green land.
As ever we will keep you posted.

Welcome to our website. My name is Jacquie Stephens and I am chair of Save Warmley and Siston Green Spaces. Please take time to look through our website and if you would like to help we would love to have you!
The decision for the new stadium will be made next week. Bristol could do with a new stadium that could host football as well as concerts and I do not think anyone would dispute that, however again the problems seems to be where they are planning to put it!! The council and the developers want it to be built on the greenbelt and the old city ground to be made into a Tescos. Again the economics of building on greenbelt and selling off old land to the old favourite Tescos. It must be just what Ashton needs another supermarket! I would urge everybody to write objecting to siting the stadium on greenbelt and asking for it to be built on the same site that the city ground is on now. Our event to thank the community for all there hard work is going well with the great day being Aug 2nd. We will celebrate big time then.
11th July.
What wonderful news we have had this week. The Spatial Strategy is to be postponed! Groups in the East of England managed with legal help to declare that the pollution levels should the building commence be way above the European standards. This has stopped them in their tracks. They are now no doubt rushing around trying desperately to find a loop hole that will get them out of this.
This is actually people power and one to be remembered. When we all get together we can make a difference. I am so proud of our community and our part in this fight, we have all paved the way for this and I am pleased to say that Save Our Green Spaces South West are now working with the same legal team to discover other problems. We will win and we will not be put off. Now is the time to apply pressure so get writing.

Our group started 11 months ago when we heard that we were going to have 8000 houses built on our green spaces. Since then we have grown in numbers and have managed to link with other groups in the same situation as us. The results of the consultation by the South West Regional Assembly will be out this month and our fight will continue. We plan to make the Government understand that we do not want developers buying up virgin land and building houses that most cannot afford so they can make millions of pounds in profit.
We need to put people and houses first by protecting our precious green life line for future generations, and building cheap houses on brown field sites or by doing up old and empty houses. Peoples homes should not be another persons way of making millions.
We have achieved a lot in 11 months but we need your help still.
Please write to your MP demanding the greenbelt to be protected.
Talk to everyone about how important it is to have green spaces.
Thank you for looking at our website.
